Avianca, part of Grupo Abra, has mobilized one of the airline sector’s largest relief operations in response to Colombia’s ongoing emergency. Since the crisis began, the carrier has transported more than 500 tons of humanitarian aid via cargo aircraft and its regular passenger network, alongside over 230 rescue and medical personnel to priority-affected areas. In total, more than 60 flights – including complimentary cargo operations, passenger services, and charters – have been deployed to support these efforts.
Grupo Abra’s combined resources played a key role: a Boeing 737 from São Paulo was used to operate two cargo flights between Bogotá and Armenia, while a logistics partnership with fellow Abra airline, GOL, allowed Avianca to deliver 40 tons of aid and operate its first-ever B737 freighter flight into Armenia Airport. The airline also established a daily logistics process delivering aid to Quibdó, and facilitated international contributions, including over 10 tons of assistance from the governments of Spain and France. In addition, Avianca supported transportation for fundraising initiatives such as the ‘Voces por la Vida’ [Voices for Life] concert and a charity football match. Avianca says it remains committed to supporting Colombia’s recovery.

Facilitating the arrival of international aid and the transportation of specialized personnel, demonstrates the role an airline network can play when its purpose extends beyond operations to focus on connecting aid, capabilities and opportunities for those who need them most.”
