Having been appointed as global General Sales and Services Agent (GSSA) to Air Canada in Puerto Rico, FlyUs Aviation Group (FlyUs), announced the opening of a new office there, to manage the carrier’s cargo operations out of San Juan (SJU). Air Canada operates three freighters per week between Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) hub. FlyUs will ensure that cargo capacities are filled – in particular with pharma shipments, given Puerto Rico’s importance as a bioscience hub – on the flights leaving SJU and connecting via Air Canada’s main hub to its extensive international network. FlyUs is no stranger to Air Canada, since it already acts as its GSSA representative in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ecuador, and a number of Central American countries. SJU is also just one of a list of additional offices that are still to be opened this and next year, in support of its 24 airline partners in 28 locations, currently.

Carlo de Haas, President and Chief Executive Officer, FlyUs, commented: “Puerto Rico is the number one bioscience manufacturing hub in the US by export volume, so there is a significant requirement for reliable temperature-controlled air cargo capacity from the island. FlyUs has extensive experience handling temperature-controlled cargo, particularly pharmaceuticals, perishables, and flowers, so our team is well-positioned to support Air Canada and its customers with these sensitive shipments. The opening of our Puerto Rico office is another step in growing the FlyUs global footprint and strengthening our ability to support airline partners wherever they need us. Our strategy is to continue expanding into markets where our specialist cargo knowledge can add value, and Puerto Rico gives us another base from which to do that.” Matthieu Casey, Managing Director, Commercial – Cargo, Air Canada, said: “FlyUs has proven to be a trusted partner through the strong results they have achieved as Air Canada’s GSA in multiple markets. As our confidence in the partnership has grown, extending that relationship to Puerto Rico became a logical next step. Being able to provide reliable uplift from one of the US’s most significant export markets is an important part of our cargo offering, and we are glad to have FlyUs on board to support us in Puerto Rico.”
